early life
Medeighnia first developed a curiosity for photography during her junior year at the UCLA School of Design. Her lens opened up a new way of seeing her environment. From photographing LA architecture to documenting the homeless in Venice beach, her work has evolved over the years, each stage manifesting a new part of herself. She graduated from Brooks Institute of Photography, one of the world's premier photography schools, in 1993 and began to work as a freelance photographer. Her clients include: Restoration Hardware, Jamba Juice, the Santa Barbara Athletic Club, the Montecito YMCA, Montecito Union School, Cathedral Oaks Tennis Club, Aleene's Creative Living Magazine, Montecito Magazine, Range Finder Magazine, and the Santa Barbara Independent. She has photographed weddings all over the California coast (San Francisco, Mill Valley, Carmel, Monterey, Santa Cruz, Lake Tahoe, Mendocino, Bodega Bay, Santa Barbara, Montecito, Malibu, Santa Monica, Laguna Beach, Newport Beach, Manhattan Beach), Los Angeles, Beverly Hills, Santa Ynez, and Kauai, HI. Since giving birth to her son Dane in 1999, her photography became a tool for sustaining the evanescent. She found that from one day to the next his expressions changed, his toes curled differently, he experienced so many "firsts" that she wanted to be able to capture as many of these moments as possible. After giving birth to her second son, Caden, she decided to pursue early life documentation as a career. Her photography is a celebration of life!
